Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to assist the agricultural education of members of the Ricegrowers’ Association, or their family.

The successful applicant will receive a grant to the value of $4,000 to assist in studying a full-time, agriculturally-based course at any Australian tertiary institution.

The 2006 award was given to Alexander Schultz of Mayrung

The 2005 award was given to Gemma Gordon of Barham.

The 2004 award was given to Lydia Gorey of Moulamein.

The 2003 award was given to Steven Jarrott of Mayrung.

Peter Connor Book Award

The award will be made in conjunction with the Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship to the runner-up and will provide $1,300 for the purchase of books.

The 2006 award was given to David Jarrott of Mayrung

The 2005 award was given to Anthony Thomas of Barham.

The 2004 award was given to Bryony Green of Deniliquin.

The 2003 award was given to Robert Ryan of Berrigan.

Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

Young Australians with ideas that use science, technology or innovation are urged to apply for grants of up to $10,000.

There are 18 awards available — eight state-based and ten industry awards — but entries are due by Friday 15 June 2007 . The awards are open to people between the ages of 18 and 35 and include a prize of up to $10,000.

Previous Science and Innovation Sward Projects include research into:

  • using everyday cattleyard equipment to remotely track and monitor individual cattle performance, for more efficient stock management:
  • investigating the value of using sugar cane as a fodder crop for cattle;
  • testing aerial photography as an alternative way to estimate timber volume in commercial forest plantations:
  • developing a measuring technique for selective harvesting of premium mud crabs;
  • investigating a monitoring system to identify the individual eating patterns of feedlot cattle to identify 'shy feeders'
  • using the Australian bustard as an ecological indicator of landscape health; and
  • developing an information brochure for durum wheat growers.

Young Rural People Study Awards

The Study Awards allow young people working in rural industries to undertake a study project, to assist them in developing the skills, knowledge and networks they need to make a greater contribution to their industry.

At least one individual from each State and the Northern Territory will receive a study award up to the value of $12,500.

Awards may be used for an overseas study course, attendance at a conference, or to undertake a specific study project. It is designed to enable young people working in industry to gain new skills and experiences, and is not intended to fund tertiary or post graduate study. The projects can be undertaken either within Australia or overseas.

At the end of the project, participants are required to produce a report with the findings of their project, which they then must disseminate to stakeholders and industry.

Pilot Commercialisation Project Grants

The main activity of the New Industries Development Program (NIDP) is to provide competitive-based funding assistance for agribusiness Pilot Commercialisation Projects (PCPs) in the agricultural, processed food, fisheries and forestry industries.

PCPs need to be innovative, market driven and sustainable and aim to commercialise new* products, varieties, technologies or services, use currently ignored by-products, or change the form, presentation and delivery of traditional products.

In the process PCP grants assist eligible Australian agribusinesses to incubate innovative, niche agribusiness ventures that encourage through-chain approaches and involve at least one partner that is a small to medium agribusiness enterprise.

Industry Partnerships - Corporate Governance for Rural Women

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) are committed to the development of women in rural industries. The Industry Partnerships Initiative scholarships allows one rural woman per participating RDC to undertake the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course to assist them to develop the skills, knowledge and networks required to take a more active or representative role in their industry. To build on skills and knowledge gained from the Company Directors Course, scholarship holders will receive mentoring from established industry leaders during the 12 months following the course.

The program targets women aged 36 years and over currently involved in rural industries.
