Hutcheon A&G Group - John Deere Limited to sponsor 2007 Rice Growers’ Conference

Tuesday, 3 July 2007

The Hutcheon A&G Group and John Deere Limited have announced they will partner the Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia Inc. (RGA) 2007 Annual Conference next month in a generous show of support for drought-affected growers.

RGA Executive Officer Victoria Taylor said while the conference has always relied on sponsorship, the partnership with Hutcheon A&G Group and John Deere Limited, which includes naming rights for the event, was a first.

“It has been a difficult year for many agribusinesses and the conference will bring together close to 300 growers and industry leaders to discuss the issues facing the rice industry and the opportunities for us over the next 12 months,” she said.

“The conference is important now more than ever and we’re very grateful for the Hutcheon A&G Group and John Deere’s support. Their partnership will enable us to put on a premier event with an excellent line up of speakers and activities, despite the low crop this year.”

Director of Hutcheon A&G Pty Ltd, Jim Rolfe, said the four Riverina dealerships specialising in rice - Armstrong’s Finley Sales & Service, Griffith’s A&G Machinery Pty Ltd, Riverina Machinery Narrandera and Coleambally - joined forces with John Deere to support the conference.

“We know it’s tough out there right now and we wanted to do something special to support the industry,” said Mr Rolfe.

“I think most agribusinesses would agree that while it’s not an ideal time to be spending sponsorship dollars, it is an ideal time to back our irrigators. At the conference, we’ll be examining the challenges that confront a machinery dealer operating in today’s environment as well as talking to our customers about their needs going forward.”

The Hutcheon A&G Group - John Deere RGA Annual Conference will be held at the Cobram-Barooga Golf Club on Friday, 3 August 2007. Speakers will include Professor Julian Cribb on the looming global food shortage; Rabobank’s Michael Whitehead on the challenges facing the US rice sector and the implications for Australia; and SunRice’s David Keldie on consumer markets around the world. The conference will be followed by the Annual Gala Dinner, featuring a four course meal and entertainment by Kiss My Brass. A Women’s Tour and post-conference activities are also scheduled. Registrations close Friday 20 July. For more information visit www.rga.org.au or phone (02) 6953 0433.
