Tuesday, 16 October 2007 The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia Inc (RGA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that it will provide a $20,000 grant to irrigators in the Murray-Darling Basin as part of the $714 million drought assistance package announcement. “The Federal Government has recognized the need for financial assistance to irrigators, said Mr Les Gordon President “The grants can be used for a number of eligible activities, including payment of fixed water charges, piping of stock & domestic water, reconfiguration of irrigation systems, replacement of irrigation equipment and investment in groundwater bores, “It is particularly good to see that irrigators are able to use these funds to pay fixed water charges as RGA has been seeking financial relief for members for some time, “In the light of Minister Koperberg’s comments in NSW Parliament recently, RGA also looks forward to the NSW Government providing more detail on the “measures” that may be available “to reprieve the financial load” for farmers, Mr Gordon said.
