Close to 250 rice growers and agribusiness leaders will meet in Coleambally next week to focus on key industry issues, including:
•How agriculture can respond to the global food demand;
•The road back to full production;
•Prospects for rice in northern Australia;
•The proposed Emissions Trading Scheme; and
•Water efficiency improvements.

Mick Keogh – Executive Director, Australian Farm Institute
The Australian Farm Institute was established to conduct research into public policy issues impacting on the Australian farm sector, and to promote policy solutions that maximise the economic and social wellbeing of farmers. Mr Keogh will speak on ‘The challenge of responding to global food demand in a climate and carbon constrained environment’.

Russell Ford, Rice Research Australia & Dr Peter Snell, NSW DPI
There has been increased activity and interest in rice research and production trials in northern parts of Australian in the last 12 months. Dr Snell and Mr Ford have been closely monitoring developments and will present their observations in ‘From Cane to Grain – Rice Development in the North’. They will also update delegates on varieties being trialed under aerobic conditions, which may provide opportunities in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Bernie Connolly, Senior Manager Rural, Rabobank
In his presentation ‘The Global Financial Crisis’, Mr Connolly will outline the causes and impacts of the global financial crisis and the possible implications for borrowers, both internationally and domestically.
