Wednesday, 4 March 2009 The annual Rice Field Day will be held at not one, but six locations this year, ensuring farmers from across the Murrumbidgee, Coleambally and Murray growing regions all have access to the latest research, development and extension. The field days, titled 'Showcasing the positive future of rice' start on 25 February and run through until 5 March 2009. There will be six sessions in all at sites across Griffith, Yanco, Coleambally, Finley, Deniliquin and Barham. Executive Director of the Ricegrowers' Association of Australia (RGA), Ruth Wade, urged all ricegrowers to attend, saying this year's line up of speakers and topics was one of the best yet. She said while the field days would follow a similar format, each region will benefit from tailored presentations on: •Insight into weather patterns and drought cycles – will rainfall return to normal when the drought breaks? "In addition to the presentations from NSW DPI, the irrigation companies and SunRice, there'll be an opportunity to tour rice crops and trials and talk to the host farmers about their on farm work and strategies," said Ms Wade. "The field days are focused very much on the future of our industry and are a must attend for those fortunate enough to be growing rice this year, as well as those who plan to grow again when the water returns. We hope to see as many growers as possible – past and present – there."
