Griffith to host 2nd Riverina Biodiversity Forum in May

Monday, 31 January 2005

The 2nd Riverina Biodiversity Forum will be held 26-28 May 2005 in Griffith, and will bring together scientists, farmers and natural resource managers to discuss the future of biodiversity management in agricultural areas.

The forum, originally scheduled for 9-11 February, has had to be rescheduled due to the convener of the program becoming unavailable. The two day forum will now take place on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 May, followed by a field trip on Saturday 28 May.

Themed “Biodiversity in Modified Landscapes” and following on from the success of the first forum in 2002 the event will bring together some 150 -200 people to discuss a range of issues relating to biodiversity, particularly in agricultural landscapes.

The forum will include representatives from irrigation companies, Catchment Management Authorities, universities, research organisations and local farmers. Topics covered will include challenges, innovations, engaging stakeholders and the practical realities of biodiversity on farms.

It promises to deliver a full and exciting program that will engage farmers, policy makers and scientists and generate meaningful outcomes which will be widely distributed.

Anyone with an interest in biodiversity issues is encouraged to attend and can find out more by contacting Janelle McGufficke at the Rice Growers’ Association of Australia office 02 6953 0433 or visiting the forum web page here.
