Monday, 25 July 2005 The Environmental Champions Program (ECP) will be launched to the rice industry at the RGA’s Annual Conference in Hay on 11 August 2005. Senator Richard Colbeck, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, will officially launch the ECP at the Annual Conference Dinner. “Environmental Champions is a total industry commitment to change underpinned by innovative leadership and has resulted in the Australian Rice Industry becoming a recognised leader in meeting environmental challenges,” said RGA President, Laurie Arthur. The ECP is a voluntary five level program that encompasses every aspect of farm business management, achieving a link between environmental stewardship and improved business performance. Actions and benchmarks within each level have been collectively agreed upon by all stakeholders involved in the program including growers. “The RGA has been trialing the Champions program over the past two years. We now have 139 farm businesses in cluster groups participating across the rice growing region,” said Mr. Arthur. “By launching the ECP, we can now invite all rice growers to participate in this innovative and important program.” The ECP has attracted Australian Government funding from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Australian Greenhouse Office. The RGA’s Annual Conference will be held at the Hay Services Club on 11 August 2005. To register, contact RGA on (02) 6953 0433. 2005 Annual Conference Corporate Sponsors CONTACT |
