The rice industry’s premier event, the Rice Field Day, returned to “Old Coree” near Jerilderie last Thursday, after a three year hiatus.
Around 400 people attended and heard the latest in rice research and development and a market update from SunRice CEO, Rob Gordon. There were also a range of displays on the day including unmanned helicopter and sushi making demonstrations.
Rice Research and Development Committee Chairman, Ian Mason, said the day was a resounding success with many growers travelling hundreds of kilometres to attend.
“We had around 400 growers, agronomists and other agribusiness professionals at the field day who heard from a range of presenters about pest, weed and nutritional management in rice, the latest in precision agriculture technology as well as rice varietal developments. Apparently one gentleman travelled all the way from the north of Western Australia to attend the field day.”
