ANNUAL RICE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) has announced the recipients of their 2015 educational scholarship awards.
The Greg Graham Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Charleton Glenn (Wakool Branch) to assist her to continue her studies at Melbourne University. Charleton is studying a Bachelor of Agriculture and regularly returns to the family farm to assist with farm work.
RGA President, Les Gordon, said that Charleton was a worthy winner.
“Charleton won the award on the basis of her passion for rice farming and understanding of all facets of the rice industry. I have no doubt she will make a significant contribution to the industry and her community.”
Mr Gordon said the scholarship honours the memory of Greg Graham, a previous President of the RGA, who died suddenly in 1983.
“Greg Graham worked tirelessly for rice growers and the community. He was very active in his support of young people and the scholarship is a fitting memorial,” Mr Gordon said.
Mr Gordon also announced the winner of the Peter Connor Book Award.
“This award was won by Daniel Andreazza (Mirrool Branch). Daniel is studying a Bachelor of Commerce at Wollongong University and this award will assist Daniel to purchase materials for his studies.”
The book award honours the memory of Peter Connor, a leading Coleambally rice grower, who passed away in 1984. Mr Connor was actively involved in rice industry organisations and the Coleambally community prior to his death.
“The quality of our scholarship winners every year gives me an enormous amount of confidence in the future of the industry”, said Mr Gordon
Mr Gordon also acknowledged the generous financial support from Rice Research Australia Pty Ltd that makes the awards possible.
