Least Worst Basin Plan Delivers as Expected

The Murray Darling Basin Authority’s first five year Basin Plan evaluation is delivering as expected for a plan that is focused on numbers not outcomes. The plan fails to appreciate the complexity and limitations of the basin environment and has little regard for its impact on the basin communities.

It is clear that there are environmental benefits from the more than 2,100 GL recovered to date. Additionally, we are also beginning to understand that how effectively you manage the available water is far more important than the sheer volume.

The RGA’s President, Jeremy Morton said, “The impact on communities was only ever acknowledged and never seriously addressed and this evaluation is now showing the Basin Plan’s profound impact on some communities.”
