Member Update - CHANGES TO FIRE PERMIT CONDITIONS FOR MIA & MID MURRAY ZONES

Late last week we had a number of member inquiries regarding the restrictions imposed by the then current Fire Permit conditions. Members were unhappy with the restrictions given the recent rain events. We contacted both the Deniliquin and Griffith RFS and communicated these concerns and the burden these restrictions were having on growers being able to plant rice.  

After much communication with the local RFS the following changes have been made:

MIA ZONE
As of today 18th October 2016 until Monday 31st October, persons wishing to burn with a fire permit in the Local Goverment Areas of Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Murrumbidgee (Old Murrumbidgee Shire - not Jerilderie section) and Narrandera will bepermitted to start burning from 12 noon (instead of 4pm)fires to be out by 12 midnight 5 days a weekWeekend burning is not permitted under permit conditions in this area. Fire permits can be obtained from RFS Brigade permit issuing officers or from the MIA District Fire Control Centre, call 02 69667800 for details of local permit officers.

MID MURRAY ZONE 
During the month of October 2016 persons wishing to burn with a fire permit in the former council areas of Conargo, Deniliquin, Jerilderie (south CIA), Murray and Wakool will be permitted to start burning from 10am start times, fires to be out by 12 midnight 7 days a week. Fire permits can be obtained from RFS Brigade permit issuing officers or from the Mid Murrary Zone Fire Control Centre, call 03 5881 5351  for details of local permit officers.
