More good news for the Australian rice industry

The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) has today congratulated local rice growers Gary and Marg Knagge on their achievement in the 2012 NSW Farmer of the Year awards.

RGA President, Les Gordon, said “as one of the two finalists for this award, the Knagges have been able to showcase their mixed farming enterprise at Gogeldrie near Leeton in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA).

Their enterprise today is a fitting tribute to the endeavours of three generations of their families as we celebrate the centenary of irrigation in the MIA.  Not only are Gary and Marg continuing to build on the work of their parents and grandparents, they continue to grow their business and expand the scale of their operation while protecting and improving their natural environment.”

Gary and Marg are leaders in the rice industry and their careful and thoughtful custodianship of their resources, their proactive involvement in industry and community groups and their willingness to share their knowledge and experience with local, national and international visitors is much appreciated by the rice industry.

Mr Gordon concluded “We are absolutely delighted with that they were finalists and understand that this was achieved because of hard work, commitment to the careful use of their resources and involvement with their industry and community organisations.”
