Nimmie-Caira Project a Boon for the 'Bidgee

The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) has welcomed the long awaited approval of the Nimmie-Caira Project announced late yesterday by Federal Environment Minister, Mark Butler and NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson.
The Australian Government will provide $180 million to NSW to purchase the land and water entitlements from 11 property owners, returning a long-term average of 173,000 megalitres (ML) of water to the environment each year.
RGA President, Les Gordon, said getting the project across the desks of key decision makers and finally approved has been a long road but one that is set to benefit the Murrumbidgee Valley significantly.
