Regional Field Days back in 2013

20 Feb 2013 11:24 AM - Put Rice Field Days in your diary!

This year’s rice field days are taking on a local flavour!

RIRDC Rice R&D Committee Chairman Ian Mason said that this year offered a great opportunity for growers to hear from researchers in their local area.

“We’ll be holding six rice field days across the rice growing region. All will be featuring presentations from NSW DPI rice breeder Peter Snell on the latest variety trials, Malcolm Taylor on weed control, NSW DPI entomologist Mark Stevens on managing snails and RGA ECP co-ordinators on stubble management. NSW DPI research agronomist Brian Dunn will also be providing an update on nitrogen at nearly all of the field days”, said Mr Mason.

“The first field day will be at the Coleambally Demo Farm on Tuesday 26 February at 9am, followed at 2.30pm with the Griffith field day at Peter Flanagan’s Benerembah property. The following day, Wednesday 27 February, there will be a field day at NSW DPI Leeton Field Station commencing at 9am. At both the Griffith and Leeton field days, NSW DPI research agronomist Geoff Beecher will be presenting information on his zinc trials.”

“In the Murray Valley, the regional field days will commence at ‘Old Coree’ (Rice Research Australia P/L), Jerilderie, at 9am on Thursday 7 March. Additional highlights of this day will be presentations from Andrew Whitlock on precision agriculture, and Russell Ford on seed treatments. At 2.30pm on the 7th, there will be a field day at Lachlan Bull’s property north of Deniliquin. This will include information on NSW DPI district agronomist John Fowler’s plant population work and DPI research agronomist Sam North’s salinity tolerance research.”

“The following day, Friday 8 March, the field days conclude at Peter Kaylock’s property near Moulamein, commencing at 9am. As an additional attraction there will be a solar power information session after lunch, looking at a new large commercial system installed for river pumping, as well as domestic solar supply.”

Food and refreshments will be available at all of the field days.
