Statement from Les Gordon, President, Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia

“We learned yesterday afternoon that SunRice Chairman, Gerry Lawson, has decided to retire from the SunRice Board after 29 years.

The RGA has enjoyed a long standing relationship with Gerry, in his capacity as a grower, a member of the RGA’s Central Executive and as a director of SunRice. Over his 13 year tenure as SunRice Chairman, he has made a significant contribution to the rice industry and the success of the SunRice business. Despite being at the helm during one of the most challenging times for the industry, the millennium drought, SunRice has grown into a business generating over $1 billion in revenue.

On behalf of the RGA, I would like to congratulate Gerry on his achievements on the SunRice Board and wish him all the very best for the future.

I would also like to congratulate incoming Chair, Laurie Arthur. I have worked with Laurie for over 25 years and he was my predecessor as President of the RGA.

The RGA also extends our congratulations to Noel Graham who was re-elected as Deputy Chair.”
