RGA calls on federal leadership on water releases

The Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia (RGA) has today called on Commonwealth water agencies to help resolve confusion about environmental water releases in the Murrumbidgee catchment.

RGA President Jeremy Morton said that recent NSW dam releases had brought into question the adaptive management principles of the Basin Plan.

“Why is the NSW government releasing massive amounts of environmental water from Murrumbidgee storages, under a pre-Basin Plan state water sharing agreement? It’s happened regardless of substantial tributary inflows downstream and we’ve got no idea how it is being co-ordinated with the Commonwealth’s watering under the Basin Plan.”
