The rice industry’s premier research showcase, the Rice Field Day, is on again at Rice Research Australia P/L (RRAPL), ‘Old Coree’, Conargo Road, Jerilderie.

Following a very successful rice field day at Old Coree in 2014, the Rice Research and Development Committee will be holding the annual Rice Field Day on Thursday 5 March commencing at 9.15am.

The field day is a joint initiative of Rice Extension, Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, Ricegrowers’ Association of Australia, NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI), Rice Research Australia Pty Ltd and  SunRice.  Murray and Riverina Local Land Services and Echuca CaseIH are sponsors of the event.  The field day is designed to showcase the latest in rice research and technological advancements in rice growing.

Rice R&D Committee Chairman, Ian Mason, said the theme for the 2015 Field Day is ‘Cashing in on research and technology’, reflecting the importance of the industry’s R&D program for grower profitability.

“This is a very important date for rice growers every year and this year we have a fantastic range of speakers to assist Australian rice growers to be more profitable,” Mr Mason said.

“Some of the highlights for this year’s field day include the latest information on rice R&D, farm business management and the rice industry’s market outlook.  There will also be a cooking demonstration using the industry’s new fragrant variety, Topaz.”

“R&D topics such as rice varieties, plant population, precision agriculture and weed control will be covered throughout the morning’s field visits.”

“The SunRice CEO Rob Gordon will also be on hand to provide growers with an update on the rice market after lunch,” Mr Mason said.
