Rice Marketing Board Update

Resignation of RMB Member Adam Boyton:

Adam Boyton (pictured) joined the RMB two years ago and his capacity for economic and strategic analysis was very quickly apparent.  Adam has been required to resign from the RMB, and other Boards, to be appointed as Australia’s first Interim National Skills Commissioner. The Board thanks Adam for the enthusiasm, expertise and intellect he brought to the Board and wishes him every success in what will be a nationally significant role.

GIPA case outcome:
The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal recently handed down its final decision on the Government Information (Public Access) Act (formerly Freedom of Information) case involving the RMB. In this case, a Victorian company, Forbidden Foods Pty Ltd, sought access to SunRice documents held by the RMB. The documents related to the RMB’s annual review of SunRice’s performance as holder of the Sole and Exclusive Export Licence, and included the consultants reports on the verification of the Export Price Premium and Freight Scale Advantage for the years 2013 to 2017. The Tribunal’s decision was that the documents should be released, because it considered the public interest favouring disclosure was more compelling than the considerations against disclosure. If you would like to view the documents please contact the RMB Secretary Carol Chiswell (on (02) 6953 3200 or email [email protected] after 18 November 2020).
Annual Meeting:
The RMB is pleased to invite all growers and other interested stakeholders to attend its Annual Meeting, to be held on Wednesday 18th November 2020, commencing at 5pm. The meeting will take place electronically through the online platform MS Teams. Please contact the RMB Secretary Carol Chiswell on (02) 6953 3200 or email [email protected] to RSVP and to obtain the login details.

Vesting Review:  The NSW government’s review of vesting is still delayed, with approval of the Terms of Reference currently sitting with the Deputy Premier John Barilaro. Growers will be notified as soon as the review commences.
For more information, please contact the RMB Secretary, Carol Chiswell, on 02 6953 3200.
