Rice Industry Field Day - “Connecting rice growers with the future”

The Rice Industry field day is the major event on the Rice Industry calendar and is designed to showcase the latest in rice research and technological advancements.

This year’s theme is “Connecting rice growers with the future” and includes a strong focus on the people of the Rice Industry, encouraging socialization and communication within our communities during these tough times of drought. RiceGrower’s families and business employees are invited to stay and enjoy a barbeque after the presentations and demonstrations in the gardens of the historic homestead. This year we expect 250 attendees.

The day includes a field walk to view the effectivenessof a new Group I herbicide Agixa for weed control in drill sown rice, remote imaging applications with Brian Dunn from the NSW Department of Primary and a presentation on ‘the importance of Australian rice to the Asian market’ from Asian food distributors Ettason’s,”

Other keynote speakers will be presenting on health and wellness; Lyndi Cohen the ‘Nude Nutritionist’ and John Harper from ‘Mate helping Mate’.

Lyndi Cohen is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Nutritionist, best known as The Nude Nutritionist. She is one of Australia’s most well-known dietitians, a regular on Channel 9’s TODAY show and a proud ambassador for SunRice. Lyndi is best known for her fad-free approach to healthy living and for creating deliciously quick, easy and nutritious recipes the whole family can enjoy.

John Harper is a dryland wheat/sheep farmer from Stockinbingal NSW. Married with three daughters John’s simple goal in life was to be a better than average farmer and hand over the family farm in good condition to his children. Depression nearly destroyed John’s opportunity to fulfil this simple goal.

In 2006, John established a grassroots self-help program in Stockinbingal called Mate Helping Mate, to address mental health and wellbeing in rural communities. Since then John has been recognised as an Australian Ambassador for his work in raising awareness of mental health and is a popular speaker at rural events.
