Rice Marketing Board Update

GIPA Case
In a previous update, we advised that the Rice Marketing Board for the State of New South Wales (RMB) and SunRice were considering legal options in relation to a decision by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (“GIPA Act”) (formerly Freedom of Information). The Tribunal’s decision was that most of the relevant RMB records, which relate in part to SunRice’s commercially confidential information, should be released to the applicant, Forbidden Foods Pty Ltd, and consequently also to the public. Both the RMB and SunRice are appealing the decision and a hearing is set for 5 June.

New Board Member
The RMB is pleased to announce that Victoria Taylor has been reappointed to the Board by the NSW Government for a four year term.
The Board is also pleased to announce that Su McCluskey has replaced outgoing Member Robyn Clubb. Su, a beef cattle farmer from Yass, holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a Fellow of the Certified Practising Accountants of Australia. She is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Director of Australian Unity, a Director on the Foundation for Young Australians, Chair of Energy Renaissance, a Commissioner for International Agricultural Research and a Member of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Skilled Migration.

Vesting Review
At this stage, the Review of Vesting by the NSW Department of Primary Industries is due to commence in the second half of this year and it is expected that DPI representatives will attend the next RGA meetings to outline the Review’s Terms of Reference and to answer questions you may have in relation to the Review.
