Important Information for RGA Members

Due to COVID - 19 RGA is offering alternative delivery options.

Thanks to all members who attended the RGA Branch Annual General Meetings which were conducted on-line this year due to COVID-19 constraints.

Attendance numbers were less than the Face-To-Face numbers from last year, but better than anticipated for the first time using this new technology. Importantly, a quorum was achieved for all meetings.

The Industry Updates were conducted on separate days - 2 shorter meetings instead of one long session. There were 3 Industry update sessions, scheduled morning, evening and midday so that members could choose a time to suit.

Thanks to those members who responded to our request for feedback via a survey.  The results were very  supportive of using this medium again. Whilst it does not replace the preferred option of Face-To-Face, it provides convenience and is our only option until the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. We'll be using your feedback along with the lessons learned to help future session run smoothly.  We look forward to seeing more members participate in the future.

If you would like to provide further feedback you can contact us at [email protected] or call Belinda on 0488 0711 65, or you can go to the survey which is still open. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RGA-Br-AGM-late

Alternative Uses for Australian Rice Straw

The Western Murray Land Improvement Group (WMLIG), in collaboration with the Moulamein Cropping Group and Rice Extension have just completed a case study booklet for managing rice stubble outlining alternative management options to burning.

The publication was developed as a result of a project from 2017-19 that trialled and demonstrated stubble incorporation on local rice farms to determine whether commercially available implements and amendments were a viable management alternative for rice stubble. The booklet includes case studies on incorporation using different implements and amendments such as fertiliser and microbial inoculants.

WMLIG hope that both the demonstration and extension material will encourage farmers to consider alternative management options by providing more access to information about the pros and cons of different options available to them.

The booklet can be downloaded by clicking HERE.
