Soils for Success

The Denimein and West Berriquin Landholder Associations were awarded funding in the National Landcare Program Small Farms, Small Grants Round 3. RGA Landcare project managed the delivery of the project.

This fantastic initiative improved the awareness and understanding amongst the farmers of the Denimein and West Berriquin irrigation districts to the importance and characteristics of a healthy and productive soil, how to determine if soil is healthy and what actions can be taken to improve the health of soils.

The was achieved through the delivery of a series of workshops that included looking at the soil profile and root zone of different soil types in the local area, the basis of soil chemistry and biology and the actions that farmers can take to improve the characteristics of their soils and the adoption of best management practices.
